Knowledge Excellence Health and Safety Training:

  • Safety Audits

Accidents at workplace can be devastating.  People can be injured or even killed.  Property, equipment or materials can be damaged or destroyed.  The use of chemicals or other hazardous substances can put people’s health at risk.  Work can come to a complete stand-still.

All of these things can happen if employees don’t try to protect themselves and their fellow workers from potential hazards.  One way to help make the workplace safer is to conduct a safety audit.  A safety audit shows how safe work areas really are.  Employees need to take responsibility for their own safety, and help themselves and their fellow workers by getting involved in the safety audit process.

The course objective is to help participants to; understand their role in the audit process, explain how to use PPE, administrative and engineering controls to protect themselves from hazards in their work areas, explain the value of recognizing and fixing equipments with potential safety problems.  By the end of this course delegates will be motivated, competent andconfident in conducting safety audit at their workplace.
  • British Safety Council- Health and Safety Level 1&2 Awards-New 2008
  • Laboratory Safety

Working in a laboratory environment exposes workers to many hazardous materials and other risks that can result in serious injuries, fire, short and long term effects.   Hazards can be of chemical, biological or of physical nature or due to poor ergonomics.  It is important that laboratory workers understand these different hazards, the risk associated with them and know the good laboratory practices.  This course gives employees all the information they need to protect themselves, coworkers from sickness or injuries and stay safe.

By the end of this course attendees will be able competent andconfident in explaining the principles of laboratory safety, identify the main health and safety risks in their laboratories and how to control these risks.

  • Risk assessment

Accidents and ill health by work cost time and money in addition to its moral and legal effects.   Insurance policies don’t cover all accidents costs and may only pay for serious injuries or damage.  Other costs arising from accidents must be met by you and can have a dramatic impact on your business.  Simple measures such as risk assessment can stop them happening, saving you time and money.

Risk assessment is a process of identifying hazards and determining their associated risks.  In practice, a risk assessment in the workplace is an examination of what could cause harm to people in that particular environment. The outcome is an action plan which helps employers to focus attention on reducing risks where it is needed and to prioritize any action to safeguard against harm occurring to people.  The course will introduce delegates to the importance of risk assessments and how to conduct them.

By the end of this course attendees will be motivated, competent and confident in conducting risk assessments at their workplace.
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

The use of chemicals or other hazardous substances can put people’s health at risk.  The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) sets eight basic measures to help in assessing risks, implementing measures needed to control exposure and establish good working practice.  The course aims is to give a good understanding of substances hazardous to health within the work place. There is greater emphasis on chemical hazardous substances, how they react and interact, and their effects on health after short term and long-term exposure.

By the end of this course delegates will learn how to effectively control substances hazards to health. They will be motivated, competent andconfident in conducting COSHH risk assessment at their workplace.

  • Standard First Aid - Comprehensive [Appointe Persons Course
  • This is a National Safety Council (NSC) of the USA course.  This NSC course was chosen for its suitability with our Blended Learning approach, for being superior in its first aid contents and instructor’s support in comparison to many UK first aid offerings, and above all the contents of this course covers more topics than the HSE recommends in training of appointed persons. The HSE suggests having at least 1 appointed person if you have <50 employees at any location and its approval is not required for appointed persons training courses. This course is designed to ensure that attendees are competent andconfident todeal with an emergency.  All the contents are provided and updated by The NSC to meet the New 2005 International Consensus on Emergency Treatment recommendations

  • CPR, AED-National Safety Council (NSC-USA) course

This is a National Safety Council (NSC) of the USA course.  This NSC course was chosen for its suitability with our Blended Learning approach and for being superior in its first aid contents and instructor’s support in comparison to many UK first aid offerings.  All the contents are provided and updated by The NSC.  This course is based on the New2005 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment recommendations. The new Guidelines for CPR instruction use Video Self Instruction or VSI (watch-while-you-practice video program).

CPR research results have shown that 61% of the time ventilations were too high (too much breathing) causing too much time to elapse between compressions.  When pumping was done it was too shallow 37% this percentage was found both in hospital and out of hospital settings.  More than quarter of the time (28%) compression rate was too slow.  These studies show there is plenty of improvement in CPR techniques and the good news is that our CPR new courses can help you counteract these trends.  This VSI technique has been proven to help students to learn, retain and perform CPR properly and competently.
  • Fire Safety

Throughout out history, fire has been a devastating destroyer and in lots of cases firefighters could do nothing to stop them.  Today there are a number of things that make our workplaces much safer.  The best way to “fight” a fire is to prevent it from happening in the first place.  This course covers the basic principles of causes of fire, highlights the hazards, suggests simple preventative actions, introduce delegates to fire risk assessment and safe evacuation procedures.

By the end of this course attendees will be motivated, competent andconfident in fire preventative actions, conducting fire risk assessments, correct actions to raise alarm when dealing with a fire emergency and in the basic fire first aid skills.

  • Manual handling

Manual handling is moving, supporting loads by hand or by using body force.  Uncoordinated movements of body can lead to back injury and serious pain in the hand arm, neck or repetitive strain injury.  This course help delegates to understand the law, the principles of manual handling and how to prevent injury to themselves and others.  Delegates will be provided with the golden rules for a safer manual handling and tailored to their work tasks.   By the end of this course attendees will be competent andconfident toin assessing andpreventing risks from manual handling.

  • Display Screen Equipment Safety

As computer use continues to increase their injuries continue to rise.  After prolonged use of display screen equipment (DSE) users can suffer from pains and aches in their wrists, arms, hands, neck, shoulder or back.  This group of disorders is known as “upper limb disorders”.  If no action is taken these health problems may in some cases be persistent or even result in a disability.

Problems can be avoided by good workplace design (and associated equipment such as chairs), so that people sit comfortably, and by good working practice.  This course will look in hidden hazards of computer use, increase awareness of these problems and explain how they can be prevented by simple actions.

By the end of this course attendees will be able to explain the implications from using DSEs.  They will be competent andconfident in identifying DSE risks, carrying out a workstation safety assessment, thus highlighting areas of concern in a timely approach.
